Teacher Qualification and Student Performance: A Correlation Study on Teacher’s Academic Qualification and Student Performance on Major Exam of AB English Students in WIT
The mastery of a subject was determined by the performance of the students in such a subject at a prescribed examination. Any interactive activity between a teacher and the students was expected to produce learning outcomes in the learners. Various studies showed that that only qualified and experienced teachers should be allowed to teach in Colleges of Education in Kaduna state, Nigeria. All non-professional and unqualified teachers should be encouraged to pursue their post graduate studies. This study was conducted to determine the effects of instructors’ educational attainment on the academic performance in major courses of AB English Students of Western Institute of Technology for AY 2014-2015 and AY 2015- 2016. Results showed that the three groups of respondents generated different results. Educational attainment may or may not affect the academic performance of students and be greatly possibly affected by other factors such as the years of experience and the background knowledge of students regarding the subjects which differs from student to student.
