Tracer Study on CAR Completers and Marine Engineering Graduates

On board Training or shipboard training is a mandatory minimum regulation for every officer in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine-room or as designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine-room of ships powered by central propulsion machinery of above 500 gross tonnages and 750kW or more per STCW Regulation II/1 and III/1. These policies, standards, and guidelines apply to students who have completed the academic requirements (CAR)leading to the BS Marine Engineering Program. Every BS MarE student shall undergo a combined workshop skills training and an approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months under the Engine Department. The average length of time for WITCAR Completers to pursue shipboard training is six months and to finish their BS MarE degree after CAR is 3 years and 10 months.
